World O! Water is a fun, annual event for people of all ages to learn about the important role that water plays in our lives and community. Join us this year to experience live demonstrations, science experiments, games, and canoe rides while talking to local experts about water quality, conservation, and recreational activities. Your family, youth group, scout troop, school class, and even your dog, is welcome to attend this free event held at Wehrspann Lake inside the Chalco Hills Recreation Area.
Do Space along with Omaha Public Library, Metropolitan Community College and Common Sense Media are hosting this family-friendly event on ways to keep your kids safe in today’s digital world. Speaker Karen Haase will join us to share her knowledge and tips on social media safety and appropriate cell phone use.
Karen Haase is a highly accomplished school attorney and a partner in the law firm of KSB School Law, where she focuses her practice exclusively on representing public school districts and related entities. Her popular presentations have been delivered to critical and popular acclaim to student and parent audiences all over Nebraska. 6:00-7:00pm: OPL/Do Space storytime and activity stations for younger children

The Aerospace Evening is a free event open to children of all ages on at the UNO Durham Science Building. The Omaha Astronomical Society will provide telescopes to view and discuss observations, aiding Girl and Boy Scout to accomplish their Astronomy badge. UNO will provide free planetarium shows and allow participants to view celestial objects from the top of the Durham Science Building. Astronomy magazine, the Planetary Society, Griffith Observatory and NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory will also send free literature and handouts for all ages. We also plan to have displays for each solar system planet, create your own lunar crater demo, touch meteorites, launch straw rockets, try on astronaut suits and offer samples of astronaut ice cream. Additionally, we will ask for children participation in lunar phases demos, scale of solar system and elliptical orbit demos.

‘Sunday with a Scientist’ is a series of presentations that highlight the work of scientists, while educating children and families on a variety of topics related to science and natural history. Presenters share scientific information in a fun informal way through demonstrations, activities or by conducting science on site.

UNO Department of Biomechanics will be hosting the Perry Initiative Outreach Program. This is an all day event for female high school Juniors and Seniors, where participants conduct mock surgeries and meet current women in the field. The aim of this program is to introduce young women to careers in STEM including engineering, medicine (specifically orthopedics), and biomechanics.

Come find out about controversies brewing in Nebraska and how we determine what is fact and what is fiction. We’ll have some hands-on activities to test your interpretation skills.

Please join Collective for Youth and our partnering agencies at the Sapp Fieldhouse on UNO’s campus, September 30, 2017 between the hours of 10 and 2 p.m. This event will highlight the activities and the providers that are in all 30 of CFY after school programs on each school day between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Lights On Afterschool is an annual event that takes place in hundreds of locations throughout the country. These events highlight the importance of high quality afterschool programs and the youth who attend them. Each year, CFY has hosted this event with great success. Over 1500 youth and adults gather to enjoy lunch, hands on activities, community exhibits, parent activities, and performances by local talent and youth from various afterschool programs in the community.
