Ag Biotech Workshop 2019

How can ag biotechnology contribute to food security? Learn about the latest seed research, the impact of environmental issues and sustainability, participate in lessons designed to meet the Nebraska science standards, meet industry experts, and get free classroom materials. Food costs are covered by the Nebraska Corn Board.

Participants are encouraged to come and bring colleagues to this one-day event that will introduce ALL PARTICIPANTS to biotech skills and how they are incorporated into agriculture, food science and biofuels. Industry speakers will emphasize the use of biotechnology tools in agricultural research and development.

Each teacher will receive over $300 worth of classroom lab supplies. 8 hours of contact time will be awarded for the 1 day workshop.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is geared toward middle and high school teachers. The content covered is above the level of elementary grades science.

    In this workshop, we will dissect the new Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards for Science (CCR-Science) adopted in September of 2017.  Specifically, we will focus on Nebraska Connections included in the standards, which aim to provide educators with relevant topics within our state to explore with students.  Using several Nebraska Connections, participants will engage in interactive lessons at Wildlife Safari Park.

    Join us for one day or both!  On day 1, we will be exploring Nebraska Connections in the life science standards.  On day 2, we will be exploring earth science connections to Nebraska.

    If you would like to register for both days, make sure to select each day on the registration screen.  If you choose to only register for one day, make sure to select the correct day/topic.  These workshops will be held at Wildlife Safari Park near Ashland, NE, I-80 Exit 426.

    Omaha Public Schools is going to pair each Business, Marketing, and Information Technology teacher with an industry professional to take part in a half-day job shadow on either August 8 or 9 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The objective of the day is for teachers to see a professional working environment and to gain knowledge and skills to carry back to their classroom to share with students. This experience will assist teachers in being able to adapt their classroom
    lessons with open ended, problem solving, real world experiences.
