Aim for the Stars Science and Math Camps: Week 4 (June 24-June 28)

Omaha STEM Ecosystems would like to inform the Omaha community of an exciting opportunity for children in grades from 3rd to 10th grade (entering 4th grade and entering 10th grade). Registration for these camps opens up the first week of January for 1 week (Mon.-Fri.) camps that are offered through June 3rd to August 2nd (no camps during the week of July 1-5). The University of Nebraska at Omaha Physics Department welcomes you to Aim for the Stars Science and Math Camps! There is a 1:8 adult to camper ratio at Aim for the Stars. Our staff members are chosen based on their rapport with children, knowledge of the subject matter and love of learning. Your child will learn so much and enjoy every moment of Aim for the Stars Science and Math Camp. There are also a variety of camps you can register your child for during any of the camp weeks. These range anywhere from 3-D printing, Science Fiction, and Engineering focused camps!

These camps vary in price so go to the Aim for the Stars page at the unomaha.edu website link posted above to find specific prices for the camp you decide to register for more details. These camps are each 1 week long (5 days only) 

Most camps are scheduled to begin each weekday at 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with options of before and after care with an additional cost of 10-30 dollars for either or both.

    Get ready to move with this active week of camp at the museum!
    Enjoy everything from relay races to dancing as you stay busy
    with movement and activity. You might even learn the history of
    these activities while you have a blast moving and shaking your
    way through the week! This camp is for 1st-6th graders and lasts from July 22-26 from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm.

    Superheroes wanted! Grab your cape and join us for History with Heroes
    as we learn about what it means to be a hero and how you can be one
    too! We will even have visits from some real-life heroes from our great
    community This camp is for kids entering grades 1st-6th and lasts from July 22-26 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.

    Pack your trunk! Our 2nd annual “back to school” camp will feature a fullweek, full-day camp celebrating the wizard world! Join us for the sorting
    hat ceremony on Monday, the awards ceremony on Friday, and enjoy the
    adventures in between! This all day camp is from July 29- August 2 and lasts from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm each day.

    Do you love crime-fighting shows, like CSI, and think the agents or people like Abby are some of the coolest people out there? Come learn about real crime fighting in the cyber world! Try advanced hands-on activities in a computer lab as you learn key techniques used to protect computer networks from intruders. You’ll actually use the tools that real cybercrime fighters use! You’ll be able to complete the requirements for three Cybersecurity badges; Cybersecurity Basics, Cybersecurity Safeguards, and Cybersecurity Investigator. All girls participating must be in 8th grade or older.

    Lights On For Little Ones STEM out-of-school program is our youth program dedicated to “Keeping youth safe, engaged, illuminated, and prepared to be successful adults in STEM careers.”

    L.O.L.O. is also organized to provide an enriching haven where youth can receive shelter, free meals, stem education, get help with homework, participate in sports, arts and other engaging activities under the supervision of caring adults. We empower our youth to recognize their potential and to realize their dreams.

    Come visit the Biomechanics Research Building at UNO to explore how mathematics helps scientists understand how the human body moves!  Biomechanics is the study of the forces that act on the body and the effects they produce.  At this event you will get to tour our state of the art research laboratories that explore human movement, virtual reality, prosthetic design, machining and prototyping, and animal movement. The event is on September 17th from 4:30pm - 6:30pm.

    The UNO STEM TRAIL (Teaching, research, and inquiry-based learning) Center is Omaha's newest STEM center that seeks to actively engage youth in STEM activities. Friday, September 20th is the official launch day of the center. Join us for presentations, workshops, and demonstrations of resources and opportunities provided by the STEM TRAIL Center!

    Interested in learning more about internships offered in the Omaha area? Come join us on October 3rd from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm at the UNO Thompson Alumni Center. The fall summit will consist of networking opportunities, speakers, and breakout sessions to explore all that Omaha has to offer for high school and post secondary internships.
