Calling all supporters of women in IT: the time is here to register for UNO’s College of Information Science & Technology’s 2019 CodeCrush Summer Summit! Students, educators and other community supporters are welcome for a day of breakout sessions and speakers celebrating diversity in IT–including Lianne McNaughton, graduate alumni of IS&T and founder of the Youth Can Do I.T. Foundation, who will return as one of the event’s speakers.

    Omaha STEM Ecosystems would like to inform the Omaha community of an exciting opportunity for children in grades from 3rd to 10th grade (entering 4th grade and entering 10th grade). Registration for these camps opens up the first week of January for 1 week (Mon.-Fri.) camps that are offered through June 3rd to August 2nd (no camps during the week of July 1-5). The University of Nebraska at Omaha Physics Department welcomes you to Aim for the Stars Science and Math Camps! There is a 1:8 adult to camper ratio at Aim for the Stars. Our staff members are chosen based on their rapport with children, knowledge of the subject matter and love of learning. Your child will learn so much and enjoy every moment of Aim for the Stars Science and Math Camp. There are also a variety of camps you can register your child for during any of the camp weeks. These range anywhere from 3-D printing, Science Fiction, and Engineering focused camps!

    Beat the heat (and rain) next month by attending the Midwest GenCyber Student Camp! This summer camp is for high school students (grades 9-12) and runs from June 24- June 28. Students will learn about cyber security and forensics and explore the Internet of Things (IoT). The camp will be held at two separate locations: June 24-25 will be at Metropolitan Community College, and June 26-28 will be at Bellevue University.     In this workshop, we will dissect the new Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards for Science (CCR-Science) adopted in September of 2017.  Specifically, we will focus on Nebraska Connections included in the standards, which aim to provide educators with relevant topics within our state to explore with students.  Using several Nebraska Connections, participants will engage in interactive lessons at Wildlife Safari Park.

    Join us for one day or both!  On day 1, we will be exploring Nebraska Connections in the life science standards.  On day 2, we will be exploring earth science connections to Nebraska.

    Do you love crime-fighting shows, like CSI, and think the agents or people like Abby are some of the coolest people out there? Come learn about real crime fighting in the cyber world! Try advanced hands-on activities in a computer lab as you learn key techniques used to protect computer networks from intruders. You’ll actually use the tools that real cybercrime fighters use! You’ll be able to complete the requirements for three Cybersecurity badges; Cybersecurity Basics, Cybersecurity Safeguards, and Cybersecurity Investigator. All girls participating must be in 8th grade or older.

    Omaha Public Schools is going to pair each Business, Marketing, and Information Technology teacher with an industry professional to take part in a half-day job shadow on either August 8 or 9 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The objective of the day is for teachers to see a professional working environment and to gain knowledge and skills to carry back to their classroom to share with students. This experience will assist teachers in being able to adapt their classroom
    lessons with open ended, problem solving, real world experiences.
