Jorge Zuniga, Ph.D., has spent his career working to lower the cost of expensive medical devices and procedures for medically underserved populations. His presentation outlines the use of additive manufacturing for the development of medical devices. Through a “User-Inspired Basic Research Approach,” Zuniga’s presentation will walk you through the research, development, and deployment of 3D printed artificial limbs for children experiencing limb loss; including the development of anatomical models for surgical planning for pediatric patients. Examples of community engagement and clinical cases will also be used to reveal how advancements in research and manufacturing can impact the quality of life of children around the world.
Each day people consider countless bits of information while making decisions. This is accomplished while working with increasingly diverse teams and stakeholders. As people confront more information and have to act quickly while considering varying perspectives, they are primed to rely on biased thinking. Why? Because unconscious biases are how our brains compensate for overload. But bias can also inhibit performance and lead to poor decision making, particularly in how we engage with each other as human beings. So how do we counteract the potentially harmful impacts of unconscious bias?
During this FIX meeting, we will explore how to: • Identify and adjust for bias • Create meaningful connections • Choose courage in order to make real change The end in mind is to take away ideas and best practices from the research and your colleagues to help create a workplace in which everyone feels valued and able to offer their best.
Thursday, February 25, 2021 10:00am to 11:00am Location: Zoom – Link will be sent once attendance is confirmed.
