  • Get Connected Afterschool Conference 2020–Virtual!
    All day
    October 1, 2020-October 2, 2020

Save the Date(s)!  The Get Connected statewide afterschool conference, a partnership between Beyond School Bells, the Nebraska Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center and Nebraska Extension, will be a virtual event this year, starting on September 30 and running through October 2nd.  We will be using an exciting new conference platform to bring us all together and will allow us to hold activities leading up to the event as well as intentionally build follow-up activities that support continued sharing, learning and growth.  This platform will also allow us to accommodate many more attendees, so we will be making a special effort to involve all of those involved with providing out of school time learning opportunities during this COVID-19 impacted year.  Moving to a virtual platform will also lower program costs, now estimated to be $25, which will include access to an audio book copy of the best seller, The Other Wes Moore.  As that book selection suggests, race equity and racial justice will be a central theme of the conference as will social and emotional learning, environmental programming and youth entrepreneurship. All day
    October 14, 2020

Students across Nebraska are invited to celebrate National Reptile Awareness Day 2020 through an art competition hosted by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Young artists in grades K-12 may submit their original artwork of a Nebraska native reptile by Oct. 14 at outdoornebraska.org/reptileart. Each student that submits a digital piece of artwork will receive a Reptile-ology magazine. For example a student can do a line drawing of a reptile and then simply take a photo and upload it to the website.

Winners from each grade level will be selected by Game and Parks staff and announced on National Reptile Awareness Day on Oct. 21. It is through a state proclamation that Nebraska will recognize the national day designed to grow one’s awareness and appreciation for snakes, turtles, lizards and more.

To learn more about Nebraska’s native reptile species, or for inspiration for artwork, visit outdoornebraska.org/reptiles.
